A Victory by 3 or less (20-17 for example) results in 3 bonus points to ONLY the victorious team.
I also commented to your post in the suggestion box, I think a lot of the reason the game was boring is the map selection - I really don't consider dm7 an ideal map for last man standing, just too many people would complain if it weren't a map option.
Give the tourney maps a try or dm9 and see how ya feel, those games should go a bit faster and be a bit more exciting.
